According to sources, PM Modi said that people who welcomed Akash Vijayvargiya after his release on bail should also be fired.

Furious Prime Minister Narendra Modi is reported to have expressed his dissatisfaction with Akash Vijayvargiya, son of BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya, released on bail after being arrested for assaulting a leader with a cricket bat the week last. Prime Minister Modi said at a meeting that these people should be expelled from the party, “no matter who’s son,” without exception, according to party leaders.

“The Prime Minister was very angry and said that no one had the right to behave badly in public or to show his arrogance in public, he used a very strong statement and said that such an act is unacceptable,” said Rajiv Pratap Rudy, leader of the BJP, NDTV after the BJP parliamentary party meeting.

According to sources, Prime Minister Modi said that people who welcomed Akash Vijayvargiya after being released on bail should also be fired.

Akash Vijayvargiya – a legislator for the first time – assaulted a civic leader with a cricket bat in Indore, Madhya Pradesh last Wednesday. In a video clip broadcast on TV channels, the 34-year-old was seen chasing the official at the bat and beating him in the presence of police officers who did nothing. A video of the dramatic scenes has been widely shared on social media.

The official was part of a team that was trying to suppress the encroachments when he was attacked by 34-year-old Akash Vijayvargiya and his followers.

Mr. Vijayvargiya justified himself by saying that the officials had dragged and verbally abused the occupants of a residential building.

His father Kailash Vijayvargiya, a veteran leader of the BJP, downplayed his son’s attack “kachha khiladi” or a “novice” and insisting that it wasn’t a “big issue”.

Akash Vijayvargiya, who was arrested after the attack, received a warm welcome from his family and supporters as he was released from prison on Sunday. Kailash Vijayvargiya was also present outside the prison where his son was garlanded by supporters while he was leaving. Supporters even shot in the air to celebrate his release on bail.

Mr. Vijayvargiya was unapologetic. “I am not guilty or embarrassed about what I did as it was in public interest… I pray to god that I should not be given another opportunity to pick up the bat (I pray to god ki vo dobara ballebazi karne ka avsar na de),” he said after stepping out of prison.
